The Chicago Cubs 2oo8 outfield picture became a little less crowded Saturday with the trade of Angel Pagan to the New York Mets for a pair of minor leaguers.
Pagan will return to his former team following a two-year stint with the Cubs. The switch-hitting outfielder averaged .245 while appearing in a combined 148 games with Chicago. Pagan missed parts of both 2006-07 with injuries and illness.
Pagan was the 136th pick overall on the Mets in 1999 and was traded to the Cubs for cash Jan. 25, 2006.
In return, the Cubs receive outfielder Corey Coles and right-handed pitcher Ryan Myers.
Coles, started out 2007 with St. Lucie of the Florida State League, but spent the most of last season at Double-A Binghamton, where he hit .296 and stole nine bases. He appeared in nine games with the Mets Triple A affiliate in New Orleans.
Meyers was primarily used in relief in 2007
Meyers, 22, recorded 13 saves and a 2.14 ERA in 33 games at Class A Savannah. He struck out 48 and walked 14 in 42 innings. He also appeared with St. Lucie.
With the departure of Pagan, the Chicago Cubs outfield consists of Alfonso Soriano, Kosuke Fukudome, Matt Murton, Felix Pie and Sam Fuld.
