Waiting for Next Year:
2008 Chicago Cubs Baseball Schedule

With the sting of the Chicago Cubs NLDS collapse nearly faded and major league baseball’s winter meetings still a month away, there’s no time better than the present to look ahead at what awaits the Cubbies in 2008.

Of particular note on the Chicago Cubs 2008 baseball schedule is the interleague match ups that pits the Cubbies against the American League East squads. Fortunately, neither the World Series champion Boston Red Sox or New York, with former Cub player Joe Girardi as the New Yankee skipper, is on the slate.

Instead, major league schedule makers gave a kind nod to Chicago Cubs baseball. The Cubs will travel to both Toronto and Tampa Bay, where Chicago will be making its first appearance at Tropicana Field. It also will mark the first time Chicago Cub manager Lou Piniella will face his former team since leaving the Devil Rays helm following the 2005 season.

Sandwiched between the away games is a three-game home series against Baltimore. The Cubs and Chicago White Sox also will resume their cross-town rivalry with their annual home and away series. All interleague play will occur in June.

The Cubs open the 2008 season at home against Central Division runner-up Milwaukee on March 31st. The Chicago Cubs close out the season against the same Brewers club in a three-game away set, September 26-28.
