Yesterday was a great day for Chicago Cubs baseball. And it wasn’t’ too bad for the Corked Bat and www.ChicagoCubs-Baseball.com either.
As you know by now the Cubs halted a two-game losing streak, thanks to the craftsmanship of pitcher Ted Lilly and Chicago’s smoke and mirror offense. The win over the dreaded Mets allowed the Cubs to maintain their position in the Central Division standings, one-game back of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Meanwhile, ChicagoCubs-Baseball.com has been nominated as Best Sports Blog by a representative for the web site, Bloggers Choice Awards. It was truly an unexpected honor. I began this blog a few months ago to address two of my biggest passions - the written word and baseball - more specifically, the Chicago Cubs. It’s been my mission to serve justice to both as there’s no more powerful instrument than the written word and no more fabulous and frustrating franchise than the Cubs.
My goal always has been to provide insightful and informative commentary and opinion and leave the game recaps and play-by-play to those with better resources. I want to provide food for thought, whether that be by going over the top, getting beneath the skin or diving head first into the belly of the beast itself - the Chicago Cubs.
This is my 101st post - a personal milestone. In arriving at this point, I’ve battled through a case of food poisoning, a torn rotator cuff, a break-up with a girlfriend, lawn grubs and all the day-to-day living we’re all accustomed to. I also was privileged to hand my beloved daughter away in marriage.
To those who’ve taken the time to read any of my posts, I thank you whole-heartedly. I hope somewhere along the way I made you think, smile or curse Corked Bat’s name. Because as someone much wiser than myself once told me, “Where we all think alike, it only goes to show you someone’s not thinking.”
So I ask for your vote as Best Sports Blog. Just click the icon. And in true Chicago politico fashion, I encourage you all - vote early, vote often.
