Miller Fizzles in Rehab Start

It doesn’t appear Wade Miller will be challenging for the Chicago Cubs fifth starter job any time soon.

In his first rehab start since going on the disabled list with back spasms, Miller struggled through a rocky performance for the Class AA  Tennessee Smokies.  Miller pitched five and two-thirds innings for the Smokies, surrendering seven hits and three runs.

He also walked one and struck out one before exiting in the sixth.

Miller threw 86 pitches, 52 for strikes.

Getting past the middle innings has been a problem for Miller since recovering from elbow surgery.  In three starts this year for the Cubs, Miller made it through the fifth just once,  and pitched just a total of 13 and two-thirds innings.
