Cub Will Ohman’s Five-Step Career Plan

Will Ohman of the Iowa CubsTwo left-handers could be making their season debut in different Cub uniforms tonight. One, Carmen Pignatiello, joins the Chicago Cubs baseball roster as a recent call-up from Triple A Iowa.

The other, Will (Bad) Ohman, has been cleared to pitch for the Iowa Cubs. You could say Ohman is definitely down and most likely out.

At least he should be, if Chicago management can someday shake their willingness to play enabler to the underachieving and the dysfunctional. Ohman is both - underachieving and dysfunctional - as the Cubs recently found out.

Given the circumstances surrounding Ohman’s departure from Chicago and demotion to Des Moines, it’ll be an unlikely sight to see the lefty in Wrigley Field again.

Fortunately, for Ohman he’s formulated a five-step career plan to revitalize his major league career:

  1. Pitch Poorly. In 32 innings for the Cubs, Ohman allowed 37 hits, 13 walks and compiled a 5.06 ERA.
  2. Claim Injury. After receiving news of his demotion to Iowa, Ohman told Cub officials he’s been pitching with a sore shoulder.
  3. Throw Team Trainer Under Bus. Still hurting from his demotion, Ohman goes on a Chicago radio station and claims Cub trainer Mark O’Neal as well as Jim Hendry and Lou Piniella knew of his injury.
  4. Have MRI Show No Damage. An MRI conducted on Ohman’s sore shoulder reveals nothing more than an irritation of the AC joint, a condition that usually subsides with a few days rest.
  5. Hope No Other Major League Management Team Reads the Papers.

Now that Ohman has settled on a career path, maybe the Cubs can find someone for Carlos Zambrano to punch so he can rejuvinate his season.
