As I mentioned in my previous post, the Chicago Cubs further trimmed their roster in readying themselves for the April 2nd opener.
Two of the more reconizable names reassigned to the minors were Sean Marshall and Carlos Marmol, both of whom had seen action during the disasterous 2006 season. Marshall has been nursing a sore shoulder, while Marmol had never been counted on to make the big Cubbies.
Here’s a list of today’s releases:
Listed as reassigned to Triple-A Iowa:
- Sean Marshall, p
- Carlos Marmol, p
- Ryan O’Malley, p
- Carmen Pignatiello, p
- Geovany Soto, c
- Micah Hoffpauir, 1b
- Casey McGehee, 3b
Listed as reassigned to Double-A Tennesse:
- Jake Fox , c
Actually, the most interesting transaction of the day came from the Cincinnati Reds organization where righthander Paul Wilson was released. Wilson underwent shoulder surgery in 2005.
Could this be another reclamation project for the Cubs?
